Slash and Cash

Slash and Cash is a skill-based melee arena game that runs in the browser, with eleven arenas, six game modes and a server that decides every hit. It is for players who want close-quarters fights with swords, axes, hammers and spears, and it is built for staked matches settled through an on-chain USDC escrow.

The brief

I wanted a melee game that opens in a browser tab with nothing to install, where the server, not the player’s browser, decides every hit. Staked matches needed the same care, so I wrote an on-chain escrow that holds each USDC buy-in and can pay out only to that match’s players. The escrow has run end to end on a test network, and Practice mode is free to play today.

What I built

  • Browser game client with 3D rendering and physics: combos, guards, rolls, wall runs, ledge climbs, weapon throws and severing finishers
  • Authoritative game server that decides every hit, running 60 ticks and 20 snapshots a second
  • Delta snapshots that cut each player’s download in an eight-player match from 311 KB/s to about 46 KB/s
  • Hosted-game lobbies for six modes, including Duel, Capture the Flag and Basketskull, with chat, ready checks, rejoin passes and forfeits
  • On-chain escrow for USDC buy-ins: one-signature gasless joins, refunds, and payouts limited to that match’s players, tested end to end on a test network
  • Wallet sign-in with a chooser for MetaMask, Phantom, Brave and Coinbase wallets, plus player profiles and a ranked queue with skill ratings
  • Practice mode with Sigurd, a computer-controlled trainer with seventeen lessons, and fifteen weapon powers that match hosts can switch off
  • Marketing site with search markup for the game and its FAQ, and 60 fps in-engine footage from a scripted capture pipeline
